The field of Performance Psychology has come a long way since its inception in the 1970’s. As a national junior tennis player, I was involved in this process from the beginning. It had an immediate impact on my performance, and gave me a level of peace of mind off the court that I had never experienced before. Over the past 50 years, the field has evolved and is widely considered a standard aspect of modern-day athletic training in the world of Olympic and Professional Sports. Big business has been slower to adopt this mental toughness/high performance training, but some of the biggest corporations have embraced it over the past 20 years. This has helped companies catapult their sales and marketshare, while their competitors wait on the sidelines questioning the validity and effectiveness of a process that’s been proven for over 50 years.
