While all of us were trained in school to think in logical, linear terms, we all know nonlinear thinking is the real secret to complex problem solving. The wealthy use it to get richer; politicians use it to get elected, and world-class thinkers use it to get what they want. Training your mind to create nonlinear solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems is one of the most challenging aspects of the mental toughness process. It’s also one of the most valuable and profitable. This single skill made a multimillionaire at a fairly young age, and it’s something anyone can learn. Watch this post from my TV show, Mental Toughness with Steve Siebold. I’ll look forward to your comments.  –PS: Try not to laugh too hard at my Cheerleader story—it’s completely true—and pretty pathetic!  (But FUN!)  🙂

  1. Steve,

I think you captured the essence of what precludes most people from pursuing a non-linear thinking approach to any problem/situation. You said “I had nothing to lose”. Most people when faced with a problem that could best be solved with non-linear thinking find themselves limited to linear thinking for fear of negative judgment from others and at some level feel like they do have something to lose. These limiting belief patterns eliminate the creativity required to look at any situation from outside the realm of the status quo.

    Great post,
    Thanks

  2. Steve,
Great video (I love TSTN, which is where I was first introduced to you and your work). Non-linear thinking is what I used as a Navy pilot when problem solving and crisis management were necessary. It works in almost any area of focus; business, resource management, people and relationships–you name it.

Keep up the great work and thanks for all you do.

  3. Hi Steve – I’m out of town have little time at the moment – so much in that post – critical world class thinking and decison making, problem solving, solution finding begins with understanding that looking at how you look at something determines what you see.

LOVED your high school stories – you had that bravado it’s still YOU!

    Best,

    Mike
