I’ve been coaching individuals and consulting multinational corporations for nearly two decades, and here’s the most disturbing thing I’ve discovered: most people (and companies) quit trying just as they are about to break through to success. I call it “One Yard Line Syndrome”. They are so close, yet fail to recognize it. Only a small percentage of people keep showing up long enough to reach their dream. My critical thinking question to you is, “Are you stopping at the one yard line of your dream?” Watch this short video I shot in Chicago on the set of CCTV (Chinese Central Television) minutes before I went on the air in front of 10 million viewers around the world. I’ll look forward tom your comments.

  1. A horse wears blinders in a race to keep from getting distracted by other horses, riders, and anything else going on. Blinders keep the horse focused.

I’m running my race now, and my blinders are on, baby!

    Wiz…

  2. One of the benefits to getting some years behind me is my experience! At 57 (man that sounds old in this mind of the still 25 year old) I have learned one thing—the harder I get knocked down the stronger I am when I get up! I KNOW this to be the reward, so no matter how nasty things may be I TRUST that I will emerge a better and stronger person and my goals will be in front of me and more reachable now than ever before, now that I have shaken it off and emerged victorious!

Keep showing us how Steve!! Thanks

  3. Old Chinese proverb:
“The temptation to quit will be greatest just before you are about to succeed.”

Landon Ford’s comment above is so true.
“Get up, dress up, show up and never give up.”

    My two cents worth:
“You already know what need to do for success. Just turn off the video games, TV, social media, texting, etc. Get off the couch and just do it!”

  4. Hi Steve! I hope this China interview changes your life AGAIN!

Why do we quit? Broke, frustrated, tired, and there comes an easier path. And that path is the one most traveled. But it’s proven. It’s easy. And unless you have found the few people or things that can finally help you achieve your dreams then after what seems a lifetime.. whether it’s 20 years or 6 months.. that lifetime seems to have reached a dead end.
It is why so many of us reach back to advise or assist others in their pursuit of their dream. We know how hard it will be to be in the red zone and everything is coming at you.
    many blessings~ steve sapato

  5. I quit my job 4 months ago to pursue screenwriting.

Needless to say, so many times while writing I was going to give up, until I cranked it out and realized the finish line had been so close all along!

Your message helped me get there. Thanks a ton!

  6. There have been situations in which I’ve known I was on the one yard line and sabotaged my own touchdown. Not completely, but just enough to take most of the thunder out of it. I caught myself doing this recently; my preparation for the event was superb and I was on my way to an awesome win, but I procrastinated and stumbled in the door just in the nick of time. Now that I’m aware that I do this, I’m seeking to understand why. How much of it is due to fear of how winning will change things, how much is guilt for changing the power dynamic, how much is simply a conflict with my self image? Regardless, I can start by catching myself and not doing it.

  7. There are a number of things that have stopped me way before the 1 yard line. When I stray from these things or start early celebrations…cruise-control sets in and the touch-down never happens. Staying connected to our “source”, other world class doers who contribute ideas and feedback for success and most of all continuing to participate at high levels of “Health & Fitness” ! The ideas and motivation released by the “natural highs” of exercise and “real food” can be the secret weapon.
