Mental Toughness on Alcatraz

I took a short break from my 5-city speaking tour to visit Alcatraz Island, the famous prison in San Francisco Bay. Alcatraz closed in 1963, but I was able to interview one of the last surviving inmates of the prison, who just happened to be there promoting his book. No kidding. Talk about about a tough guy! He was at least 80 years old, but still spoke like a gangster in an Al Capone movie. He talked about how the inmates would look out from the prison across bay and see the bright lights and big city of San Francisco. They

Mental Toughness and Emotion

Passionate people are among the most powerful on earth. They are great salespeople, entrepreneurs and philanthropists. But the truth is most people don’t know how to separate logic from emotion, or how to use each to their benefit. The result is left brain, logic-based thinkers tend to minimize the power of emotion; while right brain, emotion-based thinkers tend to overuse emotion and blend it into every decision they make. Both personality types are one-sided and relegated to middle-class thinking and decision making. I’ve spent the last 14 years teaching Fortune 500 sales teams how to use emotion for motivation and logic

Building a World-Class Belief System

My research has led me to the conclude that the foundation of world-class success is a world-class belief system. Very few people have been exposed to world-class beliefs, but in this 5-minute segment of my national television show, Mental Toughness with Steve Siebold, I discuss the beliefs I uncovered over a 26-year period interviewing some of the world’s most successful people. I also talk about how to teach these beliefs to your kids.  Steve Siebold  ( 4:57 ) [media id=31]

Mental Toughness Champion or Cold Blooded Killer?

Dr. Jack Kevorkian assisted over 130 people terminally ill patients in ending their lives, and served 8 years in prison as his compensation. “Dr. Death” as some people call him, got of of prison in 2007 and is the subject of a new HBO movie called; You Don’t Know Jack, starring Al Pacino. This is a movie every critical thinker should see, because it raises a fundamental question: “Do we have the right to end of own lives?” The U.S. government says no. Watch this short post and see what you think. I’ll look forward to your comments and another spirited

Mental Toughness and Forgiveness

Forgiveness requires mental toughness. We’ve all been lied to or cheated by someone we care about. While forgiveness is no panacea, it ranks among the most prudent strategies you can employ to create peace of mind in your life. In this episode of my national television show, Mental Toughness with Steve Siebold, I explore some of the benefits of letting go of anger and releasing the mental energy holding a grudge requires. As we all know, forgiveness is easy to say and hard to do. I don’t dispute that or claim that forgiveness is the answer to every broken relationship. I

Mental Toughness from America’s Founders

The story of America’s founding fathers is an amazing example of what can be accomplished through mental toughness. While George Washington gets much of the credit for winning the war and leading the country, many historians say it was John Adams who was the driving force behind the revolution. John Adams is mostly known for being the second President of the United States, but the truth is he was much more than that. Adam’s mental toughness and ferocious tenacity combined with Thomas Jefferson’s social polish and ability to write and speak with world-class eloquence was a force to be reckowned with until the two best

World’s Toughest Businesspeople

I’ve addressed hundreds of thousands of sales people in speeches over the past 14 years, and the most common question I get is: which group of businesspeople is the most mentally tough? For 14 years, I’ve politely declined to answer the question…until today. There’s one profession that stands above the rest when it comes to mental toughness. These people take more mental and emotional abuse than all others put together, yet they continue driving forward toward their goals and dreams. Many of them start out with nothing but a big dream in their heart and the mental toughness to do whatever

Mental Toughness and NonLinear Thinking

While all of us were trained in school to think in logical, linear terms, we all know nonlinear thinking is the real secret to complex problem solving. The wealthy use it to get richer; politicians use it to get elected, and world-class thinkers use it to get what they want. Training your mind to create nonlinear solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems is one of the most challenging aspects of the mental toughness process. It’s also one of the most valuable and profitable. This single skill made a multimillionaire at a fairly young age, and it’s something anyone can learn. Watch this
