I’ve been coaching individuals and consulting multinational corporations for nearly two decades, and here’s the most disturbing thing I’ve discovered: most people (and companies) quit trying just as they are about to break through to success. I call it “One Yard Line Syndrome”. They are so close, yet fail to recognize it. Only a small percentage of people keep showing up long enough to reach their dream. As many of you know, I’ve traveled the world preaching the mental toughness message, especially when it comes to losing weight and getting healthy. I’ve appeared on every major TV and radio network, debated some of the most celebrated doctors in the country on this issue, and written OP-ED pieces in dozens of newspapers and magazines on why mental toughness is the solution to the worldwide obesity epidemic. And while mental toughness training has helped thousands of people lose weight, I realized a few years ago that my single voice would never be enough to save millions of fat people from
Last week the American Medical Association announced that they are now labeling obesity a disease. Their purpose is obvious: they can now get insurance companies to pay them to tell patients to lose weight—because now being fat is a disease. If this was delusional thinking from the AMA, I wouldn’t be so fired up. It’s not. It’s greed.
