America is in the fight of its life. And if America dies, democracy around the world won’t be far behind. For 246 years, we’ve been the shining city on the hill, but today, we are more divided than ever. On January 6th, 2021, rioters broke into the nations capitol, resulting in the deaths of 5 people while hundreds were injured. The angry mob threatened the hang Vice President Mike Pence, while President Trump watched on TV, refusing to help. The mob was stalking Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, with the intent of kidnapping or killing her. These are not opinions,
America is drowning in a cesspool of extremism. Suddenly, making wild claims, conspiracy theories and accusations no longer requires a shred of evidence. Politcal leaders, traditional media pundits and social media influencers have become emboldened enough to make things up and convince a significant, poorly educated percentage of population that their lie is true. And it doesn’t seem to matter how extreme the lie or how large the conspiracy; these people will believe almost anything. This is happening on both sides of the political isle, from both liberals and conservatives. The answer is finding our ideological middle ground, and while it
19 children and 2 teachers are being buried in Uvalde, Texas this weekend; the innocent victims of another mass shooting. The National Rifle Association decided to hold their convention anyway, creating outrage and protests. Some of the entertainers cancelled out of respect for the families, others, like President Trump, spoke at the meeting. Was it right for the NRA to hold a gun convention following a mass murder of 19 children? Are they right, or evil? Do they really care about how these parents feel? Or should they have gone about business as usual? (which is what they did) Gun control
