"Any circle of influence that cannot be easily accessed is where the wealthy hunt." -- Steve

Thanks - that's a piece of gold.

I believe credibility is everything - I hadn't identified it with leverage - but you're right. Trust and respect go with it.

Mike,
My favorite is the leverage of credibility. Credibility sells like nothing else. The rich use their credibility to gain entry to new areas of business, and new and higher circles of friends. I like Ivan Misner personally and believe BNI is a great concept, but you won't find the rich in those circles. Any circle of influence that cannot be easily accessed is where the wealthy hunt. They are always looking to break into closed circles, because that's where the biggest players congregate.

1.) How do you go about creating, or generating, more networking opportunities/contacts? 2.) Can you give a specific example, real or imagined, of how leverage works? I am still trying to wrap my hands arounf this concept.
---------------------------
[1] Anywhere you are you can meet people on and off line - engage in conversatons - join local organizations and be active - you can also promote via advertising, writing articles, etc.

[2] You meet someone with mutual interests and you help each other in some way - you provide a "lead" to the other - a referral - and visa versa. It may be a reference to a book - a resource - or a person.

Also, in a BNI - Business Networking International - franchise you leverage - you use to your advantage - all the contacts there by asking them for referrals and in turn giving them referrals.

Leverage is using something to help you lift or organize or expand - to move something, to compound something - in the sense I'm using it it can be all of that. Leveraging your time is engaging others in the activity - you have 50 hours [or 10] weekly to apply to something and you enlist ten other people who each have 50 or ten hours weekly to apply - any amount of time from them - and leveraging is all that time adding up.

Compounding is leveraged time.

One important aspect of leveraging is for it to work at its best there has tobe something in it for the other people - they have to gain from it - "givers gain" is the motto of BNI.

The law of receprosity comes to play here.

Network marketing is a leveraged activity - all product distributiron is leveraged activity as many minds and hands produce outcomes which pay in many ways to many people. The whole is greater than what any one or many could do independently.

The teacher who wants the room cleaned up and only has fifteen minutes gets all the kids helping - that's leveraged time.

Many people working toward common and individual goals is leverage.

Others?

I have a couple of questions for you, or anyone who feels like answering. 1.) How do you go about creating, or generating, more networking opportunities/contacts? 2.) Can you give a specific example, real or imagined, of how leverage works? I am still trying to wrap my hands arounf this concept.

Steve, this is my favorite post! Everyday, I think in terms of 'opportunity' rather than engaging in discussions about how terrible things are. Even if things are tough right now in certain respects, the only way to change this is to keep on dreaming. If there ever was a time to dream, it's now, when things are changing! I generate a lot of excitement for living when I encourage myself and others to keep on dreaming - the time and energy spent on comiseration is simply unproductive and generates fear.

Of course all of your answers were right on the money, but the one word that sums it up best is 'Leverage'. The rich leverage everything, including their contacts, credibiity, knowledge, money, education, etc. While the rest of us are hard at work, the rich are leveraging their way to greater wealth. I believe it's their greatest secret and best strategy. Thanks to everyone who participated in this question. Special thanks to Mike Michelozzi for leading the way.
