Learning to Laugh at Fear in Crazy Times

Posted by: Steve | Comments (2)

One of the greatest mental toughness secrets of the world class is laughing in the face of fear and uncertainty. If you’ve ever lost everything you own, you know it’s not funny. But the way you represent any event in your mind will determine how your mind and body responds to it. I can remember waking up in the middle of the night, my heart pounding out of my chest terrified on how I would pay the rent after losing everything I had. What I learned was the one thing no one can take from you is the way you think. I decided to take a tip from the great ones I had interviewed over the years and laugh at my lot in life. I decided to tell myself I was best under pressure and I would be a millionaire again in 5 years. My midnight worry turned into working until midnight, and things started turning around. 5 years later I was earning 7-figures again. What I learned was no matter how bad it gets, if you learn to lighten up and laugh at yourself and the craziness of life, you’ll be healthier, happier, and in the right mindset to win again. Listen to this post for more ideas in this area and laugh all the way to the bank! You can do it!  Steve Siebold  (6:30)

Why Bill Maher is important for America

Posted by: Steve | Comments (2)

Last night my wife and I went to see Bill Maher, the host of Real Time with Bill Maher, and the former host of Politically Incorrect, in Ft. Lauderdale. While I didn’t agree with many of Maher’s views on politics, sex, and religion, I was impressed with his insights and level of critical thinking. This guy is smart, irreverent, and unafraid to say what he thinks. Though this Harvard educated comic delivers his points of view through a thin veil of humor, it’s plainly obvious to any audience that he believes everything he says. Thats why I think Bill Maher, and people like him who are bold enough to express what many people are thinking, are important to America. The past is gone, and many of the beliefs we’ve clung to like a drowning man grasping to a life perserver, are archiac, outdated, and in desparate need of deeper reflection through a more sophisticated set of filters with greater criteria. Maher suggested last night that it’s time to grow up, and I agree with that. Many of the beliefs we were brainwashed with as children (however innocently) need to be upgraded or discarded. Please listen to this post and see what you think. I’ll look forward to your comments.  Steve Siebold (5:30)

I was speaking down in Melbourne, Australia recently at a hotel next to Rod Laver Arena, home of the Australian Open Tennis Championships. I had the rare opportunity to trade shots with Mr. Laver back in 1977, and he gave me a piece of advice I’ve never forgotten. Rod Laver is considered one of the best tennis players that ever lived, and he’s regarded as a national treasure in his native Australia. In between speeches, my wife Dawn and I took a tour of Rod Laver Arena and filmed this short video to share Rod Laver’s wisdom with you.

I’ve just written the most controversial book of my career: Die Fat or Get Tough, 101 Differences in Thinking Between Fat People and Fit People, which was just released in ebook format. (The printed softcover will be out in July 2009) If you are 10 or more pounds overweight and ready to get fit, this book may be the answer. We’re getting feedback from all over the world from people who are shocked with the approach of this book, and many of them said they were offended but couldn’t disagree with anything I wrote. Dr. Joe Vitale, co-star of The Secret, called the book, “A disturbing masterpiece”. While I appreciate the masterpiece quote, I agree that the book is disturbing. I wrote it to shock people out of the psychological delusion that keeps them fat, sick, and unhappy…and into reality about what it takes to get fit forever. Honestly, when my editor gave the book back to me to complete the second draft I was actually offended by what I read! How can you be offended by your own book!? I’ll tell you how: because I’ve been thinking like a fat person my whole life! I was fit until I was 40, but I ate like a pig and had the core beliefs of fat person. If it wasn’t for lucky genes, I would have been the size of an elephant. No kidding. I could sit in front of the TV and down a family size bag of Doritos in my sleep! And that was just the warm up for the pizza! But 5 years ago I woke up and started applying my mental toughness philosophy to my eating and exercise, and 12 weeks later, I lost 40 pounds, and haven’t had a problem since. From 2003 to 2008, I interviewed hundreds of fat and fit people and disected their core beliefs and philosophies around diet and exercise. What I found was fit people have completely different beliefs and philosophies in this area, and these beliefs and philosophies drove their eating and exercise habits. The differences in thinking are so extreme I decided to write a book about it. I lot of my colleagues disagreed with my decision, since I work with Fortune 500  sales teams on mental toughness, which has nothing to do with weight loss. But I moved forward because people are suffering needlessly, getting sick and dying too young because they’re fat. This book has the power to change that, if the reader is tough enough to grow up and accept objective reality. Listen to this post and then go to the website and read the first 5 chapters for free. You will love it or hate it, but I promise, you won’t forget it. www.diefatbook.com    Steve Siebold  ( 7:57 )
